EDITOR’S NOTE: This is part of a series that has highlighted the different sessions to be held during the community conference March 14. Other topics derived from the Growth Policy and Quality of Life Profile will be open for discussion through other concurrent sessions that will be held throughout conference.

The Natural and Cultural Resources are vital to our communities in providing the quality of life which we enjoy here in Richland County. Some things in Richland County never change, like the richness and diversity of the natural and cultural resources in the area. Such as the improvements to air and water quality monitoring; protecting the functioning of the Yellowstone River with respect to irrigation needs; assessing and addressing the environmental impacts of the gas and oil industry; prioritizing and implementing historic building retention, preservation and restoration; support for local museums; and developing a performing arts center.

If you are interested or would like to know about these topics, you are invited to attend the Natural and Cultural Resources morning and afternoon sessions of the “State of the Community” County-wide Conference which will be held on March 14.

Your participation will help continue the preservation of our natural and cultural resources as identified through the assessment and production process of the 2006 Richland County Growth Policy and the Quality of Life Profile.

The conference is sponsored by the Richland County Planner Office, City/County Planning Board and the Richland County Health Department. The “State of the Community” County-Wide Conference is a way for the community members to come together and discuss what future developments would be needed in order to ensure that these resources are maintained and available for future generations.

Each session will be conducted by a conference facilitator, providing ample opportunity for everyone to share their thoughts and goals for the communities in Richland County.

For more information on the “State of the Community” County-wide Conference, these topics or to register for the Conference, please contact Stacey Schmitt at the County Planner’s Office at 433-6975 or sschmitt@richland.org.

You may also register by visiting the Web site at http://www.richland.org/ planning.
