Public services provided by the cities' and county's department and agencies include a number of different types. Because of the variety of topics that will be discussed under Public Services the County-Wide Conference will be offering two sessions.

The morning session will focus on the long-term needs which have been identified through the Growth Policy and Quality of Life assessment and survey process.

The topics open for discussion during this session include: identify and prioritize specific needs and measures that can be undertaken to address overall community health and safety; create a line of communication between law enforcement and community on how to report and follow-up on suspicious behavior; and society picking up the cost of resources for the elderly.

The afternoon session public services will continue with the focus related to: safety, education and recreation. Topics to be discussed include: increased pedestrian and bike safety; expanding and publicizing post-secondary opportunities; increase parental involvement in public schools; and creating a county-wide Parks and Recreation Department including family-based activities and uniting youth activities.

Each session will be conducted by a facilitator providing ample time for each attendee the opportunity to share their thoughts and goals to ensure the current public services offered meet the needs of their communities. Each attendee will also be provided with the opportunity to help identify any future services that should be offered here in Richland County.

For more information on the "State of the Community" County-Wide Conference or these topics, or to register for the conference, please contact Stacey Schmitt at the County Planner's Office at 433-6975 or sschmitt@richland.org.
