Agriculture has played a large role in the development and growth in our communities here in Richland County. A discussion session has been set aside during the "State of the Community" County-Wide Conference to offer you the opportunity to come and share your views on the issues affecting agriculture.

The conference will be offering only one session dedicated to agriculture, so if this is your area of interest, you will want to be sure to attend this session.

The topics open for discussion were identified through the assessment and production process of the 2006 Richland County Growth Policy and the Quality of Life Profile.

The topics include: expanding the county's production of high-value crops and value added industries; coordinating with land use and infrastructure development to maximize the potential for new irrigation; and increasing resources for agriculture research that supports growth of agri-business and improves competitiveness.

Each session will be conducted by a trained conference facilitator who is there to ensure that each attendee is able to share their thoughts and ideas on what future developments would be needed to keep Richland County's agriculture resources competitive on the state, national and global markets. Each attendee will also be provided with the opportunity to help identify any future needs or ideas to continue the rich agriculture traditions that are here in Richland County.

The "State of the Community" County-Wide Conference will be held on March 14, at the Assembly of God Conference Center, registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The conference is sponsored by the Richland County Planner Office, City/County Planning Board and the Richland County Health Department. Your participation will assist in implementing and updating the documents that many of you have helped to create.

For more information on the "State of the Community" County-Wide Conference, these topics, or to register for the conference, please contact Stacey Schmitt at the County Planner's Office at 433-6975 or sschmitt@richland.org.
