Local scholarships exceed $347,000 for high school students

A total of $347,498 in local scholarships was awarded during Sidney High School’s scholarship ceremony Sunday night.

Sidney High School Principal Dan Farr said about another $453,000 was received from colleges, corporations and the military.

“I think it speaks highly of our community and our students,” Farr said.

He noted that without the assistance, it would be impossible for some students to attend college.

The principal also saluted retiring guidance counselor Gail Gilbertson at the awards ceremony.

“For the past 10 years, I’ve been very appreciative of everything she’s done,” Farr said. “She’s an advocate for students.”
