After a promising start, the Richland County Patriots were eliminated by Lewistown, 16-4, Friday afternoon.

The Patriots struck first when Trent Thomas connected for a homer over the left-field fence in the bottom of the first inning.

The Pats took a 2-0 advantage when a single by Eric Ler scored Tyler Schilling in the bottom of the second.

A terrible third inning spelled doom for the Patriots. Lewistown tallied five runs on two hits and three errors in the frame. The Pats appeared like they would escape the inning within a run scoring when, with two outs, Sam Anderson was caught off third base. Anderson, however, was able to score when the Patriots drop the ball. Dillon Fugate then tallied on a double-steal play for a 2-2 deadlock.

A single by Chance Corry and a double by Logan Mossey led the Red Birds to a 5-2 advantage.

Lewistown added a run in the fourth when Miles Pennell crossed the plate.

The Red Birds put up two runs on one hit and three walks in the fifth for an 8-2 lead. A triple by Mossey highlighted Lewistown's two-run sixth inning.

In the seventh, Pennell singled and then scored on a hit by Craig Nelson for an 11-2 margin.

The Red Birds accounted for five runs on four hits in the top of the eighth.

Richland's Chris Lee and Josh Nollmeyer scored in the bottom of the eighth for the 16-4 final.

The Patriots' four hits came from Nollmeyer, Thomas, Brett Zadow and Ler.
