Blacksmith workshop to be held at Fort Union

The basic techniques of blacksmithing will be taught at Fort Union Trading Post, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (central time).

The workshop will be taught by Fort Union’s own blacksmith, Guy Pontoriero, Fairview, and assisted by Johnny Hutter, Fairview, and Daniel Gillund, Wildrose, N.D.

Pontoriero said, “We will have three forges and a number of anvils available.” All individuals are encouraged to participate from novices to accomplished iron workers. Participants are advised to bring their own lunch and wear appropriate clothing. The workshop is free of charge.
