Dr. Anthony Thiessen and the Healthy Smiles Dental Group staff are excited to include complete orthodontic care for all ages into their practice.

Thiessen has been trained in neuromuscular dentistry at one of the leading institutes in the world. Neuromuscular dentistry brings a whole new dimension to treatment planning. In addition to traditional data, neuromuscular dentistry carefully studies the status of the muscles of the jaw and the condition of the upper airway. This allows the ability to not only precisely evaluate where the teeth should be, but to better understand what caused them to be out of alignment.

 Neuromuscular dentists know that by removing the cause, as part of the treatment, teeth can be moved more quickly, relapse is minimized, if not eliminated, and the resulting bite is optimized for function and comfort.  Thiessen conducts a series of tests using non-invasive electronic instruments to study muscle status and jaw function. Data from these tests are taken to identify a jaw position, determined by the relaxed state of the muscles. Thiessen has been successfully treating patients suffering from chronic pain. This includes: headaches, migraines, soreness in the jaw including TMJ disorders, neck, shoulder and back pain, clicking of the jaw joint, limited jaw opening, numbness of fingers and arms, as well as congestion, stuffiness or ringing of the ears. He believes a truly healthy and comfortable smile begins with a physiologically sound bite.

Thiessen feels in seeing children early to rule out and/or treat complicating factors that may lead to future orthodontics and possibly even prevent braces through early appliance therapy. Thiessen is very excited to offer these services to Sidney and the surrounding area.
