The session topics were compiled from the 2006 Richland County Growth Policy and the Richland County Community Strategic Plan. Everyone who attends the conference will have the opportunity to share their ideas and thoughts on the various discussion topics. The first two sessions will focus on Housing and Physical Health Resources.
Affordable housing, housing options for seniors, rental units, or addressing the issue of abandon or decaying homes are some of the issues we face here in Richland County. A community group is already engaged in researching cost effective methods to improve the quality and quantity of housing in Richland County. This group will present their findings at the conference and look to community members for further direction on how to investigate our housing issues.

Each session will have a local facilitator to keep the conversation focused on the topic, as suggested by last year’s participants. We also heard your suggestions to lengthen each session so that everyone with a comment, question or concern can be heard. This year’s sessions will each be an hour and a half long to accommodate everyone’s needs.
The second annual “State of the Community” County-wide Conference, sponsored by the City/County Planning Board, Richland County Planner Office, and Richland County Health Department, will be held on Jan. 23, 2009 at St. Matthew’s Parish Center. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. with registration and refreshments.
