Ag Days offers quality programs this weekend

Published on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 5:48 PM MST

It is the start of the new year, and we in Richland County know that means it’s time for the annual MonDak Ag Days and Trade Show.

Organizers have done an excellent job again of putting together two days of educational programs for the agriculture community. Hopefully, the event keeps growing especially if it moves to the proposed new commercial building at the fairgrounds down the line.

Programs held at St. Matthew’s Center on Friday cover such areas as commodity market options, financial planning, Farm Service Agency programs, estate planning and local marketing groups.

Other highlights Friday include Ag in the Classroom at Sidney High School along with the banquet at the Triangle Nite Club that night. Western singer Ben Crane is the headlined performer who will no doubt entertain the crowd. Make sure to purchase your tickets now at the chamber or Extension office.

Topping the schedule on Saturday is the annual Keith Steinbeisser Memorial Livestock Judging Contest at the Gartner-Denowh Ranch. Each year, we admire the participants, mainly students, who take part in the competition regardless how cold the weather. Individuals are honored during the awards ceremony at 3 p.m.

Saturday starts with a breakfast, sponsored by the Sidney Chamber, from 6:30-9 a.m. An addition to this year’s breakfast is reports from area grower groups.

Topics to be discussed Saturday include crop budgets and rental rates, updates from area agricultural leaders and certified seed production.

Whether you can attend each program or just one during the weekend, make sure you support Ag Days along with the trade show participants.
