Five years ago, the assisted living complex in Savage opened its doors to senior citizens, and the facility only continues to grow.
“We’re full now with a waiting list,” Cheryl Mastvelten, administrator, said. Eight residents and 13 employees occupy the facility, which houses a living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room.

“The assisted living idea came about in hopes that our Savage seniors would come and take advantage of the assisted living “ be able to stay in the community,” Deb Rice, bookkeeper, said.
But the facility wouldn’t be able to run as it has without the help of volunteers, and the staff and residents want to thank them. “We have some very good volunteers come to do things with the residents. They’re so welcome and we so appreciate that,” Rice said.
Delmar Layton, 78, says he’s thankful to live at the manor; it’s more private than other facilities in the area. “I love it here,” he said. “In fact, I’ve made it known that I will not move back.” Layton developed medical conditions a few years ago and was no longer able to live alone. He made the choice to move from Sidney to the manor.
“Everybody’s great. They really are,” he said. “I’m spoiled, to put it mildly.”
The manor staff will continue to add to the facility with a new utility shed and patio furniture along with finding new activities for the residents.
“I definitely look forward to the year to see what it holds,” Mastvelten said.
