Sidney High School holds graduation ceremonies

Sidney High School graduates and concert choir members Mac Collins and Jordan Sifuentes sing “Seasons of Love” during Sunday’s commencement.

With eyes toward the future, the Class of 2009 held its commencement exercises for Sidney High School Sunday afternoon.

The class featured there valedictorians – Amanda Livers, Saurab “Sam” Sainju and Lacey Steinbeisser – along with salutatorian Whitney Satra.

Livers said if the elevator for success is out of order, the graduates should take the steps one step at a time.

She cautioned that missing a step could put them in over their heads.

Sainju thanked teachers and called them the most underappreciated people in the world. He also described his co-valedictorians as “two beautiful young women.” “I don’t even deserve to be with them.”

Sainju said he remembers as a third-grader thinking that it would take forever until he graduated from high school. He urged his classmates to live life to the furthest because it goes by too quick.

Steinbeisser said a successful life is determined not what you accumulate but rather what you give away. She asked graduates to give of their time, efforts and love to others.

Steinbeisser noted how important it is to select a career that you love.

Satra said life’s not a dress rehearsal, “this is it.”

Satra urged graduates to live for today, live like there’s no tomorrow, and dream with their eyes wide open. “There’s not a rewind button in life.”

The class memorial gifts were a small Eagle statue for the new library and outdoor furniture for the commons area.
