Cleone Douglas, 90, Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Carlyle, died on June 27, 2009, at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. and 7:30-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach, N.D. A family communion service is at 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Beach. Friends and family are welcome at the communion service.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the First Lutheran Church of Beach with Pastor Paul Peterson officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in the Douglas Family Cemetery in Wibaux County, Montana, near Carlyle. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach is entrusted with the arrangements.

Cleone was born on Feb. 4, 1919, in rural Golva, N.D., the daughter of Guy and Iva (Snow) Curl. She was raised and educated in the Golva community, having attend Golva and Beach schools and graduating from Beach High School with the class of 1937.

Cleone married Morris Douglas on Nov. 22, 1938, in Beach. She and her husband owned and operated a farm and ranch in the Carlyle community their entire life. She and her husband were actively involved with the Golden Valley County 4-H Club. Cleone enjoyed cooking, sewing and attending the quilting circle in the First Lutheran Church. She loved having huge gardens and Hereford cattle.

She had been very active in Eastern Star and served always as a care-giver for family as well as being a volunteer care-giver at the Golden Valley Manor in Beach.

Cleone was preceded in death by her husband in August of 1983. Following the death of her husband, Cleone established very deep and lasting relationships with a very special circle of friends in the area. She remained in her home on the ranch until 2003 when she moved to Iowa City to be near her daughter, but she continued to maintain an active role in the ranch operation until the time of her death. During her time spent in Iowa City, Cleone received a service award provided by the Amana School for her work within the school.

Cleone was preceded in death by a son Duane in 2007 and two infant sisters.

Survivors include her daughter Arlene McBride and her husband, Bunny, Iowa City, Iowa; her son Paul Douglas and his wife, Joanne, Medora, N.D.; her daughter-in-law Sheryl Douglas, Sidney; her brother Gerald Curl and his wife, Judy, Beach, N.D.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
