Lena Amanda Olson was born August 12, 1915 in the Haydraw community South of Alexander, ND, the daughter of Ole and Ingeborg (Lynn) Moe, Norwegian immigrants. She attended school in her younger years and received her GED in her later years. Her diary of the late 1930's and 1940's tell of neighborhood dances, as well as close friends and neighbors stopping in for coffee often. She was given a pair of chaps by a cowboy who said she was the "best cowgirl in the county." She loved horses and was probably a "horse whisperer" before that term was coined. Music was also a big part of her life. She played the banjo and the fiddle. She also liked to play the guitar with her brother, Arnold Moe, while he played the fiddle.
