Umpire Jerry Callen calls Patriot runner Chris Lee safe as he slides into home plate during the first game at Moose Park Wednesday.

One rough inning was the difference in both games for the Richland County legion team Wednesday.

The Patriots dropped a conference doubleheader against Glasgow at home as the Reds won the first game 9-5 and the second 21-6.

The Pats got on the scoreboard in the first. Chris Lee got things started with a single and Jordan Nesper kept it going with a single of his own.

Lee scored and Nesper advanced to third when the Red pitcher made a throwing error on a pick-off attempt. A John Brisben single to right scored Nesper and gave the Pats a 2-0 lead.

The bats were cool for both teams in the second as the score remained 2-0 in favor of the Pats going in the third.

Glasgow took control in the third. The Reds used run-scoring singles from Dylan Hughes, Josh Plummer, Jeff Irving and Zach Ramus to score eight and take a six-run lead.

The Pats showed no quit in the third. Lee led off the inning with single to right. Lee scored when Nesper flared a single into center. Nesper scored on a Brisben single to make the score 8-4 in favor of Glasgow.

Patriot reliever Mitch Kallevig held the bats of Glasgow in check after the third only giving up one run.

Down 9-4 going into the seventh, Richland tried to put together a late-inning rally. Brisben reached on a Red error and scored when Cole Steinbeisser drove a pitch into center, but the Pats were unable to get any more runners across the plate. Glasgow earned the 9-5 victory.

Nesper took the loss for the Patriots. Lee and Nesper led the Patriots at the plate with three hits and two runs.

“We played six good innings of baseball. That third inning hurt, and we just had too many walks to win the game,” Patriot coach Jesse Nesper said.

Glasgow struck first in the second game with one run off a single and a walk.

The Pats responded. Lee led off with a walk, and Nesper reached with a walk as well. Lee and Nesper scored on a pair of fielder’s choice plays off the bats of Brisben and Rick Haraldson to help Richland take a 2-1 lead.

Glasgow tied things up in the top of the second, but Richland regained the lead in the bottom of the inning.

Tyler Schilling led the inning off with a booming triple to center. Schilling scored on a Lee single to right to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Patriots.

Richland added to its lead in the third. Brisben, Haraldson and Steinbeisser reached to load the bases with no outs for the Patriots. Corey Johnston and Schilling ripped singles to help the Pats take a 5-2 lead.

The Reds responded in a hurry in the fourth. Glasgow scored six runs in the inning with run-scoring hits from Page, Plummer and Irving to help the Reds earn an 8-5 advantage.

Glasgow continued to see big success at the plate in the fifth and sixth innings. The Reds scored four runs in the fifth off three Patriot errors, two singles and a walk to take a 13-5 lead.

Glasgow put together an eight-run sixth inning. The Reds used four singles, three Patriot errors and two walks. The big inning helped Glasgow earn a 21-6 victory.

Steinbeisser was tagged with the loss for the Pats. Schilling and Nesper led the Patriots at the plate with two base hits.

“We started out well, but we had a bad inning and things just kind of snowballed from there,” coach Nesper said.

The Pats travel to Plentywood Tuesday and Glendive Wednesday in a pair of conference doubleheaders.

" What I'd like to see is the stats of the Pats players, season and game stats. These articles are weak. Both dugouts keep books on the stats so why can't the sports editor? It'd be great to see what the Pats record is also. Ever since I can remember, Sidney never put much into summer baseball and it looks like that hasn't changed. These kids devote their whole summer to playing ball, the least Sidney Herald could do is post stats so these players can see how good they are. Gee whiz, these articles dont even mention how many strikeouts Pats pitching had, c'mon Herald!! I thought writing was supposed to be done with passion... "
