Anita Evelyn Monson, 84, died Saturday July 4, 2009, surrounded by her loving family at the Manor Care in Minot, N.D.

She was born April 17, 1925, to Lars Hanson and Jenny (Oakland) Hanson in Fairview. She attended school in Cartwright, and graduated from Fairview High School. Anita grew up on the family farm in Cartwright and worked alongside her father. She was very proud of the fact she could operate the tractor, combine or truck, like any good “farm boy” would.

Anita continued her education at Concordia University in Moorhead, Minn., and later attended Fargo Business College.

She was united in marriage to William Monson on Dec. 26, 1950, in Sidney. Anita and Bill operated the family farm near Alexander until they retired in 1987.

She was active in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Elk Township serving as organist, teaching Sunday school and was the youth choir director as well as leading the adult choir.

She loved to travel and toured several destinations such as Holland, Sweden and the Holy Land and numerous places across the United States. She will be remembered by many of her feisty, fun-loving and generous personality. She loved her family, and her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and taking many family trips as she believed in experiencing life and learning from one’s travels.

Survivors are her husband, William; daughter, Marlene Skedsvold; sons Mike and Mitch; and grandchildren Jon, Casey, Dirk, Ali, Drew and Marissa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant older sister Anita.
