She doesn’t want animals dropped off at her home

Sidney

Hi, my name is Stacey; I live just on the outskirts of Sidney. I am writing today because of a reccurring problem I have been having. It seems that because I live just out of town and have a small hobby farm with various animals, other people seem to think I need more animals. I don’t!

Nonetheless, people tend to leave their unwanted animals in my yard. A couple of weeks ago a small kitten was dropped off. He is a good kitten, uses a liter box and also I know he started off good but for some reason he was dropped off here. I have been trying to find him a good home, but this should not be my responsibility. It is the person’s who allowed their cat to become pregnant and have kittens.

I am a very responsible pet owner. All of my pets go to see the vet and have their yearly checkups and vaccinations. I have six cats; all are either spayed or neutered (depending on their sex). I also have four dogs, which are all spayed. I have my animals spayed or neutered so that I do not have puppies and kittens running around, thus being the responsible pet owner.

So my question is this: How come I still have dogs, puppies, cats and kittens showing up? I am not the local drop off point for other people’s unwanted animals!

There are two agencies in this area that I can think of for people to get a hold of if they can no longer care for their animals. The first being the Mon-Dak Humane Society that is for either dogs or cats. Then there is Camp Cat for cats and kittens.

The third option is less desirable. Having the pet humanely put down by the vet. Yes, I can just hear people saying, “That’s cruel,” but which is more cruel, dumping an animal off somewhere, and them starving to death, getting hit by a vehicle, or possibly hurt and killed by a wild animal?

I love animals, as anyone who knows me can attest, but I cannot keep trying to save these animals that people are leaving. So if you or someone you know is thinking of just dropping off a pet somewhere, rethink it and do the responsible thing – get a hold of one of the agencies or take it to the vet to be humanely put down. Remember, be kind – these animals love unconditionall and do not deserve to be treated in such a horrible way.
