Sidney will soon have a new city council member because Ward II councilman Terry Sivertson is moving outside of city limits.
“Next month, I will officially move out there,” Sivertson said on Wednesday.
Sivertson was appointed to the council in January 2002 after Bret Smelser, who was previously a Ward II councilman, was elected mayor. Sivertson says he’s served two and a half terms.

Once the position is vacant, the mayor will appoint Sivertson’s successor. The council then needs to approve the appointment.
“The mayor and myself have discussed a couple of individuals,” Sivertson said.
