Local team wins huge tourney

The Bud Light team won the Rec three and four bracket in the Bud Light division at the Sam McQuade softball tourney held in Bismarck, N.D. The Bud Light softball team out of Sidney brought home a first-place trophy after winning a prestigious tournament recently.

They won the Rec three and four 64-team bracket in the Bud Light division at the Sam McQuade Softball Tournament in Bismarck, N.D., June 26-28.

The 12-player team won six games in two days to take home the title. On June 27, Bud Light trounced Bismarck Top Business 14-2 in its opening game and then outscored Bismarck Elbow Room 23-12.

The team played and won four tough games June 27. Bud Light opened the day by coming out on top 6-5 over Mnd Bmdl and then topped Mnd Barney’s Tesoro 8-4.

Bud Light defeated Bismarck Stuhmiller 15-12 to advance to the title game. In the championship, the bats were hot for the Bud Light as the squad earned a 23-11 victory over Big Sky, Minot, N.D.

The team thanks sponsors MC Beverage of Miles City, H&R Construction, Ranger Lounge and Golden Eagle Trucking for their support.

Members of the team include: Ronnie Anderson, Jesse Sansaver, Rodney Roth, Lawrence Hamilton, Tom Escarcega Jr., Waylon Olson, Derek Fritz, Darren Roth, Art Herman, Wayne Weeks, Mark Page and Terry Roth.

    " I've went to this tournament for many years and the best we ever did was a 5th place finish. It was an awesome feeling to finally win 1st place. I would like to thank all my teammates and the sponsors of our team. I would, also, like to especially thank my son Darren for playing with the old man and helping keep me feeling young. "
