Richland comeback comes up short

Published on Saturday, July 11, 2009 5:02 PM MDT

A valiant seventh inning rally came up just short for the Richland County All-Stars against Glasgow in the Eastern Montana State 10 and under baseball tournament in Sidney.

Down 8-1 going into the sixth and final inning, Richland was hoping for its bats to come alive. Casey Watson and Dawson McGlothlin came up big with base hits for the All-Stars to start the inning. Watson used efficient base running to score on a passed ball and cut Glasgow’s lead to six.

Paxton Miller flared a single to center to keep the momentum on Richland’s side. Miller was thrown out stealing second while McGlothlin stole home to make the score 8-3 in favor of Glasgow.

Tristan Rost reached on an error to give Richland another base runner. Rost scored when Adam Wentz flared a pitch for a double into center to cut Glasgow’s lead to four.

Richland got another run across the plate when Parker Dean drove a double to the outfield than brought in Wentz to make the score 8-5 in favor of Glasgow.

Trace Jones added a single and Garrett Basta walked to load the bases for Richland. With two outs and the go-ahead runner at the plate, the Glasgow pitcher was able to force a ground-out and help his team pull out the 8-5 victory.

Jones took the tough loss on the mound for Richland.

Jones led Richland at the plate with a run and a pair of hits.

Richland was the first to strike. The All-Stars scored a run in the first when Brett Norby doubled and drove in Jones to take the first lead of the game.

The bats of Glasgow heated up in the third. With two outs and the bases loaded, a bases clearing triple gave Glasgow a 3-1 lead.

The squad was able to score four more off of two walks, an error and a double to take a 7-1 lead going into the fourth.

Neither team scored again until the fifth when Glasgow scored a run off of a wild pitch to take an 8-1 lead.
