No opening day jitters were evident for the Richland County All-Stars Thursday morning. The squad used a huge seven-run first inning to defeat Glendive 14-2 in the opening game of the Eastern Montana State 10 and under baseball tournament.
Richland hurler Brett Norby mowed down the Glendive line-up in the first to give his team the opportunity to get on the bats quickly and the All-Stars did just that.
Casey Watson, who reached on a walk, scored on a Glendive throwing error after a Norby single to right. Garrett Basta walked to keep the rally alive. Norby scored on a hard grounder off the bat of Dawson McGlothlin. Basta crossed the plate when Parker Dean flared a single into right.

Adam Wentz gave his team a big advantage when he drove a bases-clearing triple to left. A Trace Jones hard-hit single scored Wentz and made the score 7-0 going into the second.
Norby continued his dominant pitching performance in the second and third by striking out five Glendive batters and keeping the score at 7-0.
Richland scored one in the fourth thanks to good base running from Norby, who scored on a wild pitch to make the score 8-0 in favor of Richland.
Glendive cut into the deficit in the fourth as the squad scored two runs. Richland catcher Trace Jones cut the Glendive rally short by throwing out a runner at second on a steal attempt.
Leading 8-2, Richland didn’t step off the gas in the fourth. McGlothlin earned a run batted in by walking with the bases loaded. Dean and Miller picked up RBIs with hard hit grounders to second base to keep the inning going.
With one out, Rost drove a pitch to right field for an inside-the-park homer to end the game at 14-2 in the fourth inning.
Norby picked up the complete game victory for Richland, and Wentz led the team at the plate with a trio of runs batted in.
