Sidney Health Center is the 2009 recipient of Mountain-Pacific Quality Health’s Commitment to Quality Award presented by Janice Connors, Mountain-Pacific’s CEO during this year’s MHA Annual Convention and Trade Show in Billings Sept. 24.

This is the seventh year running for this Awards Program, which recognizes select hospitals throughout Montana for their commitment to ensuring their patients receive the highest quality of care in certain areas.

This year’s focus was on heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and preventing surgical infection. Performance on additional patient safety initiatives as well as hospitals’ leadership qualities, which are characteristics of successful organizations, were also evaluated.

Many different Sidney Health Center departments contributed to the improved care and subsequent award. Pictured are a small sampling of those departments and individuals, from left, Donna Anvik, RN, One Day Surgery; Jody McCormick, RN, Med/Surg Nursing; Wanda Spaabeck, RN, Surgery Manager; Mae Rittal, RN, Critical Care Unit; Dr. Rajohn Karanjai; and Stacey Indergard, RN, Med/Surg. Nursing.

Since 2004, Sidney Health Center has become more consistent in delivering quality care according to the criteria established by Medicare. In 2008, Sidney Health Center improved significantly from the previous years. This increase is due to better documentation, prevention and patient education among other steps to improve overall care.

All Montana hospitals are eligible to apply for Hospital Quality Awards. Award-winning hospitals range from small rural hospitals to large urban hospitals.
