Alcohol abuse has profound affects on our community, from impacting children’s performance in school to causing drunk driving accidents. A number of different organizations in the community have been working independently to address this issue, but on Dec. 7, they will come together to join their efforts and resources and move forward as a single body.
The Public Safety Action Group and the Richland County DUI Task Force need new ideas and community input, so they are inviting everyone in Richland County to join them on Dec. 7 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Community Services Building. Lunch, catered by LeRoy Strasheim, will be provided for all attendees.
Each group brings a different specific focus to the table, but they are all seeking to impact the same issue. The Richland County DUI Task Force, which was formed in 2004, is dedicated to promoting a healthier and safer environment for the residents of Richland County by reducing injuries and fatalities from alcohol-related crashes and underage drinking through public education, awareness and enforcement strategies. The Public Safety Action Group was formed based on feedback from the “State of the Community” County-Wide Conference two years ago, and works to reduce crime, substance abuse and domestic violence in Richland County.
