Savage to interview superintendent candidate

Published on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 10:10 AM MST

Savage may have a very familiar face as its new superintendent of schools.

The Savage School Board will interview John McNeil for the position Monday evening. McNeil served as the school district’s superintendent from 1979 until he retired in 2006.

Savage School Board chairman Mark Tombre said an option is to have McNeil help the school district out by finishing the school year as superintendent.

On Nov. 19, Stephen Henderson gave his resignation to the school board. Henderson, who formerly was the superintendent in Lima, was in his first year at the position in Savage.

The position is being advertised through the Montana School Boards Association. Tombre said the association asked Savage to wait until at least Dec. 11 before hiring a superintendent in order to give candidates a chance to apply. Tombre said McNeil also encourages the school district to find a permanent superintendent if possible.

" Thank You "Let's Be Positive!" Very will written. Savage has been through a lot with out much leadership. We are a proud community and we will pull through this. If you can't be a solution to the problem then your help isn't needed. Best of luck to all the teachers and staff at Savage School. "

" For many small communities across the country and in Montana in particular, schools are a huge source of pride. Voters almost always pass mill levies at election time. You don't see this kind of committment in many larger communities. Savage might be a small town, but they are fiercely proud of their school, their students, teachers, and traditions. To ridicule this fine community with a nasty faceless comment like "Nothing like small town drama" makes the first commenter look incredibly petty.

"Absolutely ridiculous": Why such a low blow? Why are you so negative? Have you been wronged by the entire Savage community? Do you have some background information to support your slam? Are you just plain mean and nasty? I'd be willing to bet that you are more of a hinderance than a help to each and every problem you encounter or stick your nose into.

Good luck to the fine people of Savage. I hope you find an awesome individual to lead your school. "
