As well as the traditional Silver Bells celebration in Fairview Saturday, the community also invites area residents to join in the fun of a new winter festival.
“We’re just trying to do a little more with Silver Bells,” Kim Shaide, one of the winter festival organizers, said.
The festival will include the lighting of Sharbono Park at 5 p.m. The plan is for trees and the gazebo to be decorated with lights. Making the donation of lights are Vess Hurley, Marty Shaide and W.L. Neu Construction.

Brandi Tjelde will take photos at the park from 2-4 p.m, and then photos with Santa at the park from 4-5 p.m. – after Santa is done visiting with children at the school.
Bingo for turkeys and hams will take place from 2-4 p.m. at the Waterhole’s side room.
A cash giveaway is scheduled on Main Street throughout the afternoon. There will be two contests – one for children and one for adults. Sign-up begins at noon, with drawings at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
“You have to be present during the drawing,” Kim Shaide said. Each two-hour drawing is brand new so people should sign-up at each business three times during the day. The money prize will increase by $25 each two hours. Shaide expects the first drawing for children to be $25, and then increase to $50 and then to $75. Prizes for adults will increase from $75 to $100 to $125. Marty Shaide is donating the funds.
Businesses will serve such treats as hot chocolate, coffee, cider, bars and cookies throughout the day.
Kim Shaide explains other activities may be added including a snowman contest if weather permits.
Silver Bells includes the Fairview Chamber organizing “The Christmas Bazaar” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria and old school. The event will feature 37 tables and 29 crafters. “That’s really good,” Leslie Tveit, one of the Silver Bells organizers, said.
The Explore America organization will sell concessions in the cafeteria.
A free movie for children will start at 2 p.m. in the school. Children can also enjoy free popcorn during the movie. Fairview’s junior high student council is helping at the movie.
Santa will visit with children after the movie.
A new program in Fairview is “A Gift for Every Child,” where people can make donations at First Security Bank-West to pay for children’s gifts of low-income families.
