There’s probably no better way to entertain and raise money at the same time than to hold a runway show.
And that’s exactly what Sidney High School’s Business Professionals of America did Saturday when they held a holiday style show and dessert buffet at the Assembly of God Church to earn money for their upcoming trips.
“We haven’t done it for a few years,” advisor Elaine Stedman said. “We have a really large group this year, so we’re trying to find some new ways to raise money.”

The goal of the event was to highlight the clothing and accessories available locally. In all, 13 businesses participated in having their items showcased. Many others donated various door prizes including numerous gift cards, chocolate truffles and brand new luggage.
The show that took six weeks to prepare lasted for roughly an hour, and there were rave reviews afterward.
“I like style shows. It’s fun to see the different styles,” said Dorene McDonald, whose daughter Heather is in her first year with BPA. McDonald sat up front, so she had a good viewing location. Her favorite items were a red wool jacket by Creekside Clothiers, a pair of “wild” leggings from Lucky Buckle and a tuxedo with a pink vest from Party Central. There were other items she said she would “definitely” purchase.
Seventy-one BPA members must raise approximately $75,000 in order to fund their trips to their state and national leadership conferences in Billings in March and in California in May. “Some of the schools pay for their kids to go,” Stedman said. “My kids earn their own way, and they’re most appreciative of the trip when they earn their way to pay for it.”
Close to 100 were in attendance Saturday – more than the group had previously a few years back – and Stedman said she will plan to do it again. “I’m happy with it,” she said. “You never know at this time of year what’s going to happen and what the turnout will be.”
