Christmas is a time of miracles. My family can testify to that.
Normally, in my column I address my thoughts or opinions on issues facing our communities and try to stay away from my personal life. But in this Christmas column I needed to share a blessing my family received. His name is Michael James Kyung.
This is his story.

The miracle story began in early September when an ultrasound was performed and the doctors realized there was no amniotic fluid. It was on this day Kristin and Gene were informed it is not a question of IF Kristin will be admitted into the hospital, but a question of WHEN. And on Sept. 14, the question was answered.
Each day that our family receives the update from the CaringBridge Web page on little Michael James is a blessing. Family and friends have shared prayers, encouragement and congratulations across the miles through the guestbook on the page. Every time an e-mail came across, saying MJ’s Web page had been updated, I would click on the link in anticipation of what it may say.
There have been ups and downs, but the excitement of a few drops of breast milk being given through his feeding tube or the “little poop” he had kept our family positive on him getting stronger and coming home.
MJ is a fighter and is now three months old, weighing 1875 grams (4 pounds, 2.2 ounces). He is in a regular crib, still in the hospital, but working hard to come home by New Years.
If someone had told me a 14-ounce baby could survive such challenges, I would have told them it is impossible. Nothing is impossible with prayer, the love of family and the expert care of medical staff.
Christmas is all about the miracle of life. Merry Christmas little Michael James. You’ll be home soon.
