LeAnn Rimes to entertain at fair

Published on Monday, February 1, 2010 1:32 PM MST

Richland County Fair officials have announced that country star LeAnn Rimes will entertain at this year's fair Aug. 7.

Rimes’ resume includes the selling of more than 37 million albums. She is a two-time Grammy Award winner and is the youngest recipient ever of a Grammy. She was also the first country music recording artist to win in the Best New Artist category.

Comedian Herb Dixon will return to open the night of entertainment on Aug. 7.

Dates of this year’s fair and rodeo are Aug. 4-7.

" I wish we could have had a newer act to come. instead of someone who is not really revelent anymore Especially with ticket prices the way they are My kids don't even know who Leann rimes is "

" To Country Again. Really can you buy a concert ticket, gas, and motel room in Billings for less than what a concert ticket costs here????? I don't know what kind of concert or motel you are going to and are you stealing the gas????? "

" Sorry, no slam intended there - this topic seems to come up every time they announce a country headline for the fair (often times in a more derogatory manner than this) I too would like to see more rock groups here in Sidney, unfortunately I don't believe it would be financially in the fair's best interest to bring in modern headliners (especially when you can drive to Billings and see a "real" concert, for less than the price of what they charge for a ticket here.) If we're ever going to see bigger "current" name bands here, Sidney will need support of promoters, and I don't believe oil revenue would be best spent in this manner. While I don't fully agree with the cost benefit of the fair's new building project, I do concede that at least IT will be around for years to come. A modern rock headline act would most likely be a immediate financial loss, just a pure economics issue there, I'm afraid.

I do commend the fair board though, they have brought in some big big names over the years, far bigger than most towns this size could ever dream of. "

" maybe instead of not complaining, you could throw your support, financially or otherwise, into bringing rock groups to Sidney. The Sammus Theory has put on a great show three years in a row now, with plans to continue and grow for years to come. Summerfest had a great start too, while it still existed.

The whole fair has been built on a country theme for years (how well do rock groups and rodeos go together?) so it's hard to expect that to change anytime soon, but most weekends out of the year, the fairgrounds stand vacant, perhaps someone can make a move to change that? Maybe that multi-million dollar facility will give some incentive in that direction (and hopefully not just just jack up the price of renting the fairgrounds)

LeAnn Rimes is a good cross platform performer, with many hits on country and pop charts, this is as close to "rock" as the general population is ready for, for a family event. How many parents would be willing to bring their children to a Nickelback concert? (And for what they've been charging for tickets, I'd hate to see the price for a current headline act anyway!) "

" Really is right.I mean Taylor Swift??Come on,Sidney doesn't have that kind of oil money to pay for that. This is not Saudi Arabia oil or no oil.Maybe Nickel Back will play the fair in about 20 years when they are hard up for cash. You're lucky to get LeAnn Rimes,I'm sure that still wasn't cheap.I mean you could be getting someone like B.J. Thomas or Ashley Simpson. "

" Not Happy are you serious? The fair has what 5000 seats, do you really think an act like Taylor Swift would even consider coming to such a small venue. It is great that the fair got Rimes. Congratulations to the fair board and Jamie. "

" I find it hard to beleave they couldn't get a better ACT like (Taylor Swift)or maybe (Nickel Back). With all the oil monny around I think the County of Richland should have a bigger/better act. "
