Both parties must solve country’s problems

Published on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 4:01 PM MST

Our country is currently facing many challenges. We are involved in wars and have great economic problems including double-digit unemployment.

This is not the time for our national legislators to sit on their hands and do nothing. We applaud President Obama for stressing that a new jobs bill is required, and we hope that the proposals are both agreeable and benefit all Americans.

We have concerns that instead of offering good ideas and making positive steps, some national leaders would find in an election year the best option would do nothing. With Obama’s approval ratings on the decline, it seems Republicans are becoming more popular by just saying no to any proposals made by Democrats.

Some wondered why the Democrats attempted to pass health care reform in such a quick matter. Now as we enter an election year, the answer is clear. Some politicians are now looking more at polls than at what could be best for the country. We elect these people to not always make the popular decision but rather make the right decision.

This country deserves better.

We urge our Montana delegation to lead the way in showing the art of compromise in Washington. Just simply saying no isn’t a policy the Republicans should continue. Democrats, meanwhile, need to abandon some of their extreme ideas and seek more agreeable measures. Only by working together will we achieve a better America in the coming year.

    " Thank you Sidney Herald!

It will take years to fix the problems this country has, and will take BOTH sides working together to resolve the issues. Postponing resolutions is only wasting time and obstructing the process is hurting this country more.

Obama is my president, just as Bush was last (2) terms, and if McCain had won, he too, would have been my president. If you can't respect the man, at least respect the Office. "

    " @Ethel

Oh please, you speak as though every bad thing that happened to this country in the last 100 years is due to President Obama, or as you say 'him'.

Maybe you should come clean and say what it really is?

is it the colour of his skin? His past with a oh my god non christian religion?
    or maybe his political party.

Considering our last president started 2 wars, after himself skipping out on guard duty AFTER avoiding Vietnam.

oh yeah he also sold stocks in oil companies right before we invaded iraq.

oh yah and lets also remember, bush jr, your savior that did nothing wrong, was arrested for cocaine posession in 1972.

Oh and watching our economy crumble as he counted his oil money, then letting the 'next guy' figure it out. "

" More blind assumptions and accusations made on swallowing the latest daily tripe from a dying journalism. There are many sources of opinion based on research of varied writings, public behavior observation, pondering statements for integrity.

This administration does keep one busy because of his chameleon-like and frenzied reigning.

Never thought it was possible to ruthlessly destroy the world's only true bastion of freedom, liberty, justice, initiative, energy and progress in a matter of mere days, but he was well-prepared and willing. "
