Savage’s Payton Phillippi looks to drive past Fairview’s Stephanie Murphy Friday night.

Fairview dominated the rebounding battle and earned a 55-27 District 2-C girls basketball win in Savage Friday.

Fairview Coach Mark Thompson said he felt his team did a good job on the defensive end and with boxing out while rebounding. He was forced to substitute more often because of illnesses and injuries.

A three-pointer by Hanna Jepsen kept Savage close in the first quarter, but a three-point play by Katie Hardy and a three-pointer by Jordan Gifford put the margin at 12-4. After Savage’s Stephanie Nollmeyer was good from the corner, Morgan Klose hit a pull-up jumper for a 14-6 lead to end the period.

Fairview opened the second quarter with six of the first eight points on two outside shots by Stephanie Murphy and a basket off a rebound by Katie Hardy.

Savage kept the pressure on as Andria Mastvelten fired in a three-pointer at the 5:15 mark to put the score at 20-11.

Fairview then put together its best basketball of the game during the last five minutes of the half. Fairview outscored Savage by an 11-0 margin on a hoop by Murphy, a three-pointer by Klose, two baskets by Hardy and a baseline shot by Erica Riedel for a 31-11 advantage.

Savage regrouped and played well in the third quarter as a basket by Jepsen, off a pass from LaToya Neiffer, a drive by Nollmeyer and a 12-footer by Bridger Rice closed the margin to 32-17.

Fairview accounted for 12 of the last 13 points of the quarter for a 44-18 lead. Morgan Klose led the attack with seven of the points. Adding baskets were Riedel and Masyn Klose.

The fourth quarter was highlighted by a 9-0 run by Savage. Rice accounted for seven of the points.

Fairview’s top scorers were Morgan Klose with 18 and Hardy with 14. Also scoring were Murphy with seven, Gifford with five, Tiffany Kittleson with four, Riedel with four, Morgan Taylor with three, Lexi Cayko with two and Masyn Klose with two.
