Powder Keg break-in, suspect arrested

A Williston, N.D., man is being held at the Law Enforcement Center in Sidney on a $50,000 bond after breaking into the Powder Keg in Fairview Thursday night into Friday morning.

Fairview Police Chief Susan Quandt reported that between 10:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. someone broke a window and entered the building, spilling kitchen utensils and stealing a vehicle.

Quandt reported the suspect was caught due to traffic violations, even before officers were notified of the burglary.

On Friday morning, police received a report from Powder Keg employees notifying them of the break-in. Upon investigation, Zachary Koelzer, 21, Williston, N.D., was charged with the following: felony burglary, felony theft of a vehicle, obstructing a peace officer, eluding a peace officer, reckless driving and driving while driver’s license is suspended.

" this kid isnt a low life in anyway.. hes a kid who made a mistake.. he is slowly learning his lesson and i know if given the chance.. he would go face to face of the owner and apologize and admit he did make a mistake.. so before you judge a "lowlife" make sure he has a full on record before this... he had one bad night, and couldnt be more sorry for it.. he has a great job and makes mistakes.. we all do.. he hasnt skipped out on a court date yet, and will pay for all his mistakes.. give the kid a chance.. " Thanks for the words of support and positive comments. Thanks to Fairview Law Enforcement and Kevin R who called in the licence plate # on the vehicle stollen. The cost of this break-in is over $5000 so far. The man charged told one of my staff he blacked out when all of this happened. Well at least he admits he did it. I hope the young man figures out what he wants for his life. "

" Sure- How do you know that the two break-ins are not related? They both happened around the same time and not very far from each other. One would naturally think they are related. Unless you work for law enforcement and are related to the investigation I would not be telling people that they aren't related. "

" The Sidney Herald contacted McKenzie County law enforcement Monday and Tuesday before press to get the information on the possibly break-in in Fairview, ND - law enforcement did not respond to our many calls, so we are unable to report anything until law enforcment gives us the facts. "
