In 1924, they moved to a farm near Lisbon where she attended Casey School through the fifth grade. The family moved to the Skaar, N.D., community in 1930 where Doris attended Gossett School through the eighth grade. On July 29, 1943, Doris was united in marriage to Leif Borg at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview. They farmed the Borg family farm until 1970, when they retired and moved to Sidney. When Leif passed away in 1998, she returned to the farm and made her home with her daughter and son-in-law until her death.

Doris was a member of Scandinavia Evangelical Lutheran Church of Four Mile until its closing and then the family joined Zion Lutheran Church, Fairview. Doris enjoyed quilting and the fellowship of her friends in the Zion Quilting Ladies group. At home, she crocheted many sweaters for LWR. Her happiest times were spent at the sewing machine.
