Deadline is Monday for county elections

Three more candidates have joined the field in the race for Richland County clerk and recorder.

Individuals who have filed in the last two weeks are Deb Gilbert and Kathy Sweley on the Republican ticket and Peggy McDowell on the Democratic side.

Previously, Paula Steinbeisser, Stephanie Verhasselt and Kris Weltikol filed on the Republican ticket.

Filing for county commissioner this past week was Al Franzen on the Republican ticket, joining incumbent Mark Rehbein.

Also filing on the Republican side are incumbents Sandy Christensen for county treasurer and Gail Staffanson for county superintendent of schools.

Democrats filing for office have been incumbents Brad Baisch for sheriff, Marvin Johnson for coroner and Mike Weber for county attorney.

Greg Mohr has filed for re-election in the non-partisan office of justice of the peace.

Deadline for filing is 5 p.m. Monday at the courthouse. The primary election is held on June 8. The general election is scheduled for Nov. 2.

    " Just Wonderin,I asked the same thing about Mr. Franzen, apparenlty once you are released and meet the conditions set for you, you are able to vote and run for office. "

    " So nice to see so many candidates come out for office. Its to bad we didnt have more choices in some of the other categories. My hope for RC is that we pick people that truly want to help us and will work for us. All of us need to keep in mind that the future of Sidney is being decided now. I think some of these people are in it for the right reasons and some arent. Lets be smart. Lets make educated well thought our votes.... "
