The Sidney High School Key Club made its fair share of noise at the annual district convention, which includes the entire state, in Billings during the week.
Highlighting the week for the club under the leadership of faculty advisor Elaine Stedman was the election of Brant Pewonka to the position of lieutenant governor for division five. The district consists of the clubs in Sidney, Miles City and Glendive. It’s the first lieutenant governor from Sidney in more than five years.
“What I liked best about convention was getting the opportunities to meet new people,” Sidney club member Tori Getchell said. “I also liked the workshops and that one of our own won lieutenant governor for division.”

Sidney received the first-place award for Project Life, which is the district project. Sidney’s project included radio spots along with a video that was shown at the high school.
The club earned second-place honors for the Governor’s Project Awards that deal with keeping a community clean.
Sidney was one of the few chapters that earned a K-Family Relations Award and also a K-Family Ties Award. K-Family in Sidney includes Key Club, Kiwanis Club, Builders Club and K-Kids.
Sidney Key Club officers president Sarah Beyer, vice president Katelyn Dynneson, secretary Blair Troudt and treasurer Sadie Steinbeisser all enjoyed meeting students with the same passion and drive for community service.
“I had so many good times. From meeting people from all over the state to listening to campaign speeches to the infamous Key Club dances,” Steinbeisser, a junior, said. “It was one of my favorite Key club experiences so far, and I can’t wait for next year.”
Taylor Fay added her highlights were, “Making friends and learning about other towns and more about Key Club.”
Troudt was recognized as a distinguished secretary, and Dynneson was honored as a distinguished vice president.
Bill Vander Weele was honored as the outstanding Kiwanis advisor for Key Club for the year.
Sidney placed third in the scrapbook contest. The club received a distinguished honor for the achievement report award.
The convention urged high school students to be a hero and volunteer.
“This year’s district convention was great,” Sidney student Katie Staffanson said. “I loved meeting people that love helping others and having fun. I am super excited to be a hero to my community through Key Club.”
