Relay for Life captain meeting Wednesday

The MonDak Relay For Life planning committee will be holding team captain and planning committee meetings on Wednesday at the Foundation for Community Care, 221 Second St. N.W., Sidney.

The team captain meeting will start at 5:15 p.m. and the committee meeting will follow at 6 p.m. If you would like to sign up a team for the MonDak Relay For Life, this would be a great time to do so. Computers will be set up allowing teams to get registered online during the meeting.

The MonDak Relay For Life event will be held July 23 at the Richland County Fairgrounds.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled event that is designed to bring together those who have been affected by cancer in the community. Participants will celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society with its mission to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer and empower individuals to fight back.

It is also a night for people who have shared the same experience to comfort one another.

The 12-hour fundraiser is a time to remember those lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived. Teams will gather at the Richland County Fairgrounds walking or running laps with each team striving to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Teams also set up and decorate campsites, play games and enter contests. Team member participation can vary by spending all 12 hours at the Relay to attending only a portion.

At the event, survivors will be honored during the Survivors Lap and later in the evening, survivors and those lost to cancer will be remembered during the Luminaria Ceremony. Participants will also celebrate life, friendship and chance to work together toward a cancer-free future.
