Roy J. Diaz, 76, the proprietor of Pepp’s Bar and Lanes in Big Sandy and Army veteran of Great Falls, died on Monday, March 8, 2010, at a local hospital of renal failure.

There will be no services at his request. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Roy was born Nov. 8, 1933, to Jesus and Louise (Betker) Diaz in Sidney, where he was raised and educated. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne.

He married Charlotta Schroeder May 6, 1985, in Jackpot, Nev.

Roy was the owner and proprietor of Pepp’s Bar and Lanes in Big Sandy, and then worked for Jack Murphy Skyway Bowling Alley as a mechanic.

He enjoyed bowling and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotta Diaz, Great Falls; son Arnie (Marcie) Diaz, Missoula; daughter Cheryl, Longview, Texas; stepson Jeff (Glenda) Carr, Boise, Idaho; stepdaughter Chana (Buddy) Bunton, Great Falls; sisters Roberta (David) Johansen, Billings, and Dorothy (Robert) Halcro, Great Falls; grandchildren Anthony, Megan, Casey, Cory, Kiana, Ethan and Hayden; and his mutt Nikki.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jess Diaz; his parents; a brother John Diaz; and an infant brother, Gerald Dwayne Diaz.

The family suggests memorials to Peace Hospice, 1101 26th St S, Great Falls, MT 59405.
