Letter from Rep. Julie French, HD 36
After much thought, I decided to withdraw from my PSC race and filed to run again for my legislative seat, HD 36, which I've served in for two sessions.
Having gone to the budget training last week Helena and listening to all the discussion about how people want to address the cuts that are going to be needed next session, I became extremely concerned about how those cuts will disproportionately affect the small rural counties, esp. the ones in my district. There is already talk about decreasing the entitlement payments that come to the counties as well as going after education money. We have already heard lots of discussion about cuts to the Dept. of Public Health and Human Services. Some of these cuts will directly affect our small hospitals and nursing homes, schools and county budgets. I just feel that I have to be there to be the voice of experience as well as the strong voice for rural concerns, as I have been in my past two sessions. The budget discussions start in the House! All bills that have anything to do with money start in the House. As much as I felt I could make a difference in the PSC, I feel that at this point in time, with all the budget issues facing Montana, I need to be at the Legislature.
