Rep. Julie French, D-Mont, has changed her mind about running for public service commission. After attending last week’s budget training in Helena, French decided she could better serve residents by returning to the House.

So, French has filed for re-election for the Montana House.

“I have more potential of doing something about what we’re facing,” French said. She noted she served on the leadership committee, which deals with bills and committee assignments, last session.

She noted that during the budget training, she heard different people’s opinions about the budget and its shortfall.

“It really gave me great concerns,” French said. “There is already talk about decreasing the entitlement payments that come to the counties as well as going after education money. We have already heard lots of discussion about cuts to the Department of Public Health and Human Services. Some of these cuts will directly affect our small hospitals and nursing homes, schools and county budgets.”

A different formula for oil royalty payments was also discussed.

“These are all things that will directly affect my district,” French said.

She believes she’s known as a supporter of rural Montana and has a voice of experience.
