Once in a great while a book comes through the mail to my desk that deserves attention. I paged through “Change the World, Change your Life,” by 23-year-old Angela Perkey from Washington D.C. area.

Perkey is the founder of Students Serve, a national nonprofit that awards service grants to college students.

Perkey’s book, “Change the World, Change your Life,” provides a kind of blueprint for being of service and includes several pages of links to practical resources for starting a non-profit or other service agency.

Her journey explains how she was taught, as a young child, to use her talents in volunteering, supporting charitable causes and improving the lives in which she touches. Though she’s a young woman, she’s making a huge difference in the lives of friends, family, community and beyond – the world.

April is National Service Month, and this book may help provide a way to discover your life purpose through service in helping others, but also helping ourselves. Richland County has many service organizations where people are encouraged to be involved in.

Homespun Hi Tea

The Homespun Hi Tea is set for April 24 from noon-2 p.m. at the Sidney Assembly of God Church Fireside Room. The tickets are $15 each. Proceeds will go toward American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life teams participating in the Hi Tea. More news to come!
