Initial pesticide applicator training scheduled

Published on Friday, March 19, 2010 5:59 PM MDT

A training session for pesticide applicators will be held in Scobey on March 25. This training will be an initial training for individuals who do not currently have a Montana Private Applicator’s License. It will also offer recertification credits for individuals that are currently licensed.

A valid Montana Private Applicator License is required to purchase restricted use pesticides. A person certified as a private applicator may use or supervise the use of a restricted use pesticide for purposes of producing any agricultural commodity on land owned, rented or leased by him/her or his/her employer.

The training will be held at the Nemont Friendship Room from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Topics to be covered include Montana Private Applicator License Overview, Calibration Basics, Minimizing Drift and Volatization, Integrated Pest Management, Recordkeeping and Using Pesticides Safely.

Currently licensed private applicators can earn six recertification credits by attending the training. Commercial and government recertification credits have also been applied for.

For more information or to pre-register, please contact the Daniels County Extension office at 406-487-2861 or nwinkler@montana.edu. A complete agenda may be viewed at http://www.pesticides.montana.edu/PAT/2010/Region4.html.
