Sidney’s Cole Steinbeisser drives to the basket against Glasgow.

The Sidney boys basketball team, who finished fourth in the conference, had three players earn Eastern A All-Conference honors. Mitch Kallevig earned second-team honors while Cole Steinbeisser and Josh Morasko were named to the All-Conference honorable mention team.

Kallevig, a senior, handled the point guard duties for the Eagles during his junior and senior seasons. He was a versatile player for Sidney as he averaged nine points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals per game as a senior.

“Mitch was a very good playmaker for us. He was our best ball handler and an excellent passer,” Eagle coach Danny Strasheim said. “He was tough to take him off the floor with his ability to handle the ball and find open teammates.”

Steinbeisser is a junior who provided good strength inside for Sidney this season. He averaged 10 points and six rebounds a game. The post player was Sidney’s top shooter finishing 49 percent from the field.

“Cole is a big, strong kid who had a good season. He has some limitations as far as speed and jumping, but he just works so hard,” Strasheim said. “He’s a good shooter and a good rebounder just because of how hard he works. We’re looking for him to have a very strong season as a senior.”

Morasko, a senior, started at guard for the past two season for the Eagles. He averaged seven points, four rebounds and four assists a game.

“Josh had a big year for us. He didn’t shoot the ball as well as he did as a junior, but he really stepped up this season. He stepped up to handle the ball for us at times and passing the ball inside,” Strasheim said.

" Coach Strasheim speaks the truth. Sidney has had below average talent and athleticism the last couple of years. Those are his player's, no one knows what talent he has had the last two years better than him. Skinner had more talent and one of the best players in the state compared to the boy's team. Skinner did great but let's see what he can do with average players. It's easy to be positive when you go to state. Coach Danny sets a very good example to our kids on and off the court. That is more than I can say for some other coaches and the parents of some of the players around here. Coach Danny has produced competitive teams with lack of talent. There is more talent coming up, the boys should be fine and start winning games instead of just competing with the Eastern league powerhouses. "

" To those people who think coach Straheim is being negative. You dont have a clue. He was just stating facts and the truth. He was also giving them the best compliment they can get. By saying they work harder in practice this year and in turn became better players. I wish people would just stay out of it. Let the coaches coach and the parent should parent. Some people have a hard time facing the truth about their kids. So, you go with what you have and try to make them work hard to become better players. Good job players and coach Strasheim this year. "

" I would like to think that even Coach Strasheim would look back at the article and realize that the words chosen were not exactly the way he wanted them to be stated. Just compare his statements to those of Coach Skinner who had nothing but positives for all involved. I would also like to say that Sidneys athleticism had little to do with losing games, but was more likely due to not always protecting the ball. Something that I am sure Coach Strasheim will address in the future. "

" Everything Coach Strasheim said is completely true. Cole is not athletic, and worked very hard to get this recognition. Which to me is as high a compliment as you can get. And Josh didn't shoot the ball as well as last season, but became a better player this season by improving on other areas of his game. Those kids did a great job this season, along with all the other players. You are the one who is being negative by trying to find any words that you can, to twist to make them seem negative. I can't imagine why anyone would want to coach in Sidney and put up with this crap constantly. I know Coach well and have thought he has done a great job these past few seasons with the talent he has had. They were very competitive the last two seasons. He talks highly of the great kids in the program and how hard all most all of them work in practice and games. In Conference this season Billings, Laurel, Hardin and Glendive all were more athletic teams than the Eagles. If you can't see that, you have no clue about basketball. "

" Congratulations on your recognition boys. The team had some great athletes on it this year. I am confused tho on the negative coaches comments that follow the recogiton for greatness. To slow, can't jump or played better the year before yet made an all-conference team?? The kids did great! not so sure about the mentality of the coaches. "
