Lue and Les Anderson are pleased to be in Sidney.

The Sidney Assembly of God Church congregation welcomed its new pastor Les Anderson and wife, Lue, Sunday as it also said goodbye to interim pastor Ed Vainio and his wife, Janet.

It’s been about a year and a half since the church’s former pastor left. The Vainios came in June 2009, expecting to stay for only a few months. Instead, the couple stayed for 14 months as the church board continued its search for a permanent pastor.

“We are excited to be part of the community,” Les Anderson said. “We’ve already noticed people wave hello to you on the street.” The couple, who have one grown son, Tim, arrived Friday.

Before moving to Sidney, Anderson was a full-time fire department chaplain in Belgrade, a position he held for 20 years.

The couple say they plan to stick around in Sidney for a long time. They look forward to getting to know the people and to build relationships, their “heart’s desire.”

The public is encouraged to welcome the couple by calling the church at 433-2550. The Sunday church service is at 10:30 a.m. with Sunday School at 9:30. There is also a Sunday evening prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
