Three local organizations are organizing an event that should provide plenty of fun for the entire family Sept. 18.

The Kids 1st! Carnival is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Richland County Fair’s Event Center. Organizations leading the event are the Sidney Community Education Foundation, Family Resource Center and Boys & Girls Club of Richland County.

Nicole Hackley, Family Resource Center coordinator, said the Sidney Community Education Foundation got the ball rolling and approached the other two groups.

“We’ve been planning this for a couple of months now,” Hackley said. “We hope it becomes an annual event. Hopefully we can build on it year after year.”

While the three organizations will gain funds through sponsorships, all the community groups running booths will also make money for their programs.

Already 20 groups have signed up to run either game or food booths. There’s room for more, and group leaders can call Elaine Stedman, 480-5719, for details.

“Basically we wanted another event for families in the area,” Hackley said. “Something fun that isn’t too expensive and you can bring your entire family to.”

Tickets will be 25 cents. Each game will cost between one and four tickets.

Inflatable toys will be located outside of the building. Another highlight will be face painting during the day.

So far, the food list includes mini-doughnuts, cotton candy and lattes.
