The Fairview football team came up short in its first game of the season. The Warriors fell 25-20 in nine-man action to Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood (M-L-S), N.D., Saturday.
“I thought we played a pretty good game,” fifth-year head coach Kevin Clausen said. “We just had too many costly mistakes that ended up being the difference in the game.”
The Warriors took a 14-0 lead in the first behind a 68-yard touchdown run by Riley Reynolds and a Cody Vitt 51-yard scoring scamper. M-L-S responded with a touchdown to make the score 14-6 in favor of the Warriors going into the second.

The Mavericks, however, controlled the second half as a touchdown in each quarter gave the team a 25-20 victory.
Leading Fairview on the ground and through the air was Vitt with 85 yards on 12 rushing attacks. He threw for 87 yards on six completions. Anthony Lebsock was efficient at quarterback completing four of five passes for 48 yards. Reynolds finished with 60 yards. Kortes had six catches for 45 yards while Lebsock led the team with 47 yards receiving on just one catch.
The Warriors travel to play Hays-Lodgepole Saturday at 1 p.m.
“Hays-Lodgepole is a good team, and we’re going to have to play well to win,” Clausen said.
