Cremation has taken place and Interment will be at a later date at the Sidney Cemetery. Memorials may be made to your choice of charity. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.fulkersons.com.

Harold was born on July 26, 1917, in Nashua, Minn., to Adolph and Agnes (Schuster) Martin. Harold was raised in Donley, Minn., with three brothers and three sisters. He was very proud of the fact that he was chosen as an Altar Boy at church. Unfortunately when he was a young boy his father disappeared, never to be seen again. He and his older brother then joined the CCC camps after completing the eighth grade. He later joined the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1941 in the Medical Division and was stationed at Fort Snelling, Minn. then Alliance, Neb.

During this time on leave in Alliance, he met the cutest and spunkiest girl, Darlene Lucille Shanks, she said he was the best looking man in uniform. They fell in love and married Oct. 9, 1943, in Alliance. He continued on in the Army Air Corp until 1945 when he was honorably mentioned and discharged. He and Darlene were blessed with three children, Carol Jean was born in 1944, Patricia Mae in 1945, and John Robert in 1947.

Harold worked various jobs in the early years raising his family in Alliance and Crawford, Neb. He was a delivery milkman, was very proud as a master meat cutter at the local grocery stores, helped out Darlene at her flower shop and owned the Amoco Standard gas station in Crawford, Neb. In 1978 after retiring they moved to Carson City, Mich., to be near their daughter Carol Jean. He spent many hours out on the golf course, loved to go fishing in Canada and was living the good life.

In 1985, they moved to Sidney, to be near most of the grandchildren which were the apple of his eye. Harold’s kind, gentle, patient manner taught so many of us how to hunt, fish, play cards, cribbage, pinochle, and was addicted to solitaire games before computers were even thought of. He cherished the time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as much as we did with him. He loved his family dearly.

Growing up in Minnesota and leaving home at a young age with his brother; he developed the skill of hunting and fishing anything he could eat. He loved to fish so much his nickname growing up was “Kipe.” The season of fall was his favorite and he looked forward to annual hunting ventures with his older brother Adolph and all the ducks and pheasants they would be cooking up. He was very proud to be an American Legion Member, VFW, Elks Club, and Lion’s Club.

He loved all kinds of sports; especially the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings. He loved to travel to see his grandchildren with Darlene. He loved to play Bingo with the girls at Extended Care and after winning many times would say “well, I can go to Chicago now.” His addicting laugh, infectious smile and keen sense of humor will be missed by so many that knew him. We have all been truly blessed.

Harold John Forsberg, 93, passed away peacefully after a lifelong spark and passion for life, Thursday evening, Aug. 26, 2010 at SHC-Extended Care Facility. “Grampa was tired, so God put his hand on his shoulder and whispered, “Come with me Harold, let’s go fishin.”

Harold is survived by: his daughter, Carol Jean and husband, Dr. Reginald Wortman, Jacksboro, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Forsberg, Minot, N.D.; six grandchildren, Lisa Barnes, Carson City, Mich.; Tracy (and husband Paul) Denowh, Sidney; Shari (and husband Bob) Richardson, Crystal, Mich.; Corey (and wife Timberly) Smith, Sidney; Anthony Forsberg and Jessica Forsberg, Minot, N.D.; nine great-grandchildren, Jamie Denowh and Casey Denowh, Sidney; Cody Barnes and Collin Barnes, Carson City, Mich.; Paige Jackson, Washington, D.C.; Jeremy, Justin (and wife Tanya), and Cody Carroll, Carson City, Mich.; and Brooke Smith, Sidney; one great-great-grandchild; Ethan Carroll, Carson City, Mich.; one brother, Adolph (and wife Elsie) Forsberg, Chisolm, Minn.; one sister, Margie (and husband Dallas) Crow, Howarden, Iowa; many nieces and nephews that were very dear to his heart; special friend and caregiver Dorothy Johnson; and he also leaves behind his extended family of staff and friends at the SHC-Extended Care; where he spent the last 10 years of his life making memories with all who knew him.
