Beware of false stories regarding shooting incident

Paulette Olesen,
Sheila’s mom

Sidney

This is the Sidney Herald and not the National Enquirer. Sidney is a small town and there are four children involved, the youngest only 7 and 9.

The court heard details leading up to the attempted murder of two good people, but they were not accurate. They were details described by Bob, the accused! The article had the point of view of Bob being the victim. Sheila divorced Bob over 15 months before this terrible incident happened. It was stated that Bob and Sheila did things together, which is true, but what was not stated was that they were only together when they went with their two sons.

As far as she was concerned, she wanted to show her young boys that they could have a decent relationship even though they weren’t living together as a family any more. There was never any hope of reconciliation on Sheila’s part and Bob was well aware of this no matter what he says.

When Bob broke into Sheila’s house, Mike did not have his shirt off. Bob stating this is just one of the ways he shows his lack of character. He was trying to justify his criminal act of trying to kill two innocent people by making it look like they were doing something wrong. Mike and Sheila were on a first date. They were both single people doing nothing wrong. Again, Sheila had divorced Bob over 15 months before this terrible incident happened. He continues to blame all of his problems on everyone but himself.

Big surprise, he got religion in jail. What else was there for him to do? The pastor, aka “Preacher in the Patch,” gave him sympathy and told Bob that he was not at fault which is exactly what he wanted to hear. A lot of people have had a bad childhood but went on to live their lives without trying to kill two good people.

Mike is a good man and Sheila’s dad and I are very glad he is with Sheila and her boys. There are false stories still going around, but the people who know and care about Sheila, Mike and her boys know it is just a bunch of “noise.”

" Thankful this is to you- I do know all parties involved, excluding the male whom was shot, and again her "truth" could be just as fabricated as his "truth"! "

" this paper is just funny...how about lets solve everyone's rumors right now starting with ur office. "

" And yet I am still wondering why she would want to open this can of worms again. I have not heard talk about this issue for months. I know alittle of each family although we do not associate. Talk is talk and it does not matter who says what. Why should I believe what she is saying anymore than what he said. If you do not know either of them, we will never know who is telling the truth. "

" To Wondering, Optional and Me:

I believe what this letter was meant to do was to set some details straight. Paulette is only addressing what was already written about in the article regarding Bob's sentencing. I see absolutely no harm to the children by her clarifying some things that were previously written about. And I agree, the only people who know the whole truth are the three that were there that evening but as far as slamming a mother and grandmother for correcting something she thought was wrong is absurd! Anyone who knows this family (or the Escobedo family for that matter) knows who is more likely to be telling the truth!!!!! "

" Ok Paulette- Yes, agreed let sleeping dogs lie! But just food for thought why would people believe or not believe "your" story any more than they should believes Bob's story. Truthfully, the only people that will ever truely know what happened is the 3 of them. "

" Why? Why would you want this published publicly? Like one already said, you, the caring Grandmother, are only creating more issues. Nobodies really don't need the details. We just need to know that justice was served and the community is safe. I am sorry that your family had to go through this terrible mess, but, if you want to "protect" those kids, keep the details private. "

" I have not given a second thought about this shooting until it is now brought up again. I find myself wondering why you would choose to address this issue AGAIN in the paper. If you know that the rumors is just "noise", than you should let it be that. You should not care what everyone else thinks about the shooting. The people that are your true friends, family and those that love you know what happened. You should be happy with that and let this shooting be forgotten as far as the town is concerned. YOU keep bringing it up, so I see it as you doing more harm to those children involved. "

" Thank you for writing this. It needed to be said. Like you say this isn't the first time Bob was in touble for violence. Would be nice if he did find the Lord but I'm sure it was just a ploy to make himself look better for the court. I feel really bad for his kids. "
