The Sidney Eagle volleyball team competed in the Montana-Wyoming Border Wars tournament Friday and Saturday in Billings. The youthful squad went 1-2 in pool play and went 0-2 on Saturday.
On Friday, Sidney opened the tournament with a hard-fought loss to Jackson Hole, Wyo., 15-13, 7-15 and 6-15. Krista Steinbeisser and Airika Blackburn added four kills while Blackburn also added eight blocks. Ashley Farr led the squad with two aces, seven assists and three kills. Cedar Lewis and Allison Lee finished with four digs each.
In the second round of pool play, the Eagles fell to Cody, Wyo., 10-15 and 10-15. Blackburn and Lee each added an ace while Blackburn also had four blocks. Lee finished with four kills while Lewis and Krissa Jones had four digs each. Steinbeisser and Farr rounded things out with three assists each.

The Eagles fell in the first round of tournament play to Lovell, Wyo., 18-25 and 19-25. Blackburn and Farr finished with four kills each while Farr also had six assists. Jones added four digs and three aces. Blackburn led the squad with three of the team’s nine blocks.
In the second round of the tournament, Sidney dropped a match to conference rival Laurel 22-25 and 20-25. Steinbeisser led Sidney with seven kills, two aces and nine assists. Farr had two aces and seven assists. Lee and Leuenberger each added blocks. Blackburn finished with five kills. Jones added five digs while Katie Staffanson finished with four.
“This tournament was a great chance to get more varsity experience under our belts,” Eagle coach Caryn Fehilly said. “It was just a great chance for us to play good competition."
