Monika F. Vale, 90, Rochester, Minn., died at St. Mary’s Hospital Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010. Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 25 at Madonna Towers Chapel.

Monika Florence Dombrowski was born May 4, 1920, in Lambert to Anthony and Josephine (Godlewski) Dombrowski. After graduation, she attended nursing school in Minneapolis and in 1941 moved to Rochester, where she was a nurse at Mayo Clinic in the radiology department until her retirement in 1975 after 35 years.

Monika married Chester R. Vale in October 1995 in St. Paul, Minn. Chester was a journeyman electrician and worked many years for Foster Electric. He died Oct. 8, 2000. Monika had been a resident of Madonna Towers for many years.

Monika and her husband enjoyed traveling. After her husband’s death, she settled down to a slower pace of life and loved drawing, especially birds. Monika enjoyed music and taught herself to play and sang in the Madonna Towers Choir.

She is survived by a nephew, Dwayne Towne, Las Vegas, Nev., two stepdaughters, Joann Mahoney, Rochester, and Barbara McBeth, Belgrade, and many step-grandchildren.

Monika was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother and one stepson.
