Miss Northeastern Montana Camille Lebsock cut the ribbon to the Fairview Bridge. The bridge was dedicated during Fairview's Old Timers Festival.


Katherine Irigoin was sworn in as the new district judge in the Seventh Judicial District, Department 2.

A "general alert" was issued for Montana National Guard soldiers in January. The Montana National Guard asked for volunteers to be mobilized in support of the War on Terror.

The Richland County Youth Summit Coalition started work on establishing a local Boys and Girls Club of Richland County for area youth.

The Sidney Eagles earned the Class A state wrestling championship as two individuals won state titles and 10 others placed at the meet in February. The Eagles won the state title with an incredible 223 points. Polson was a distant second with 145 points. Bryon Kuylen, a freshman, won the title at 119 pounds and Nathan Williams, a junior, earned the title at 145 pounds.

Two individuals were arrested and charged in connection with an alleged methamphetamine laboratory in Fairview.

After half a decade of scheduling matches at a number of locations, the Sidney Soccer Association announced in March to hold all K-5 soccer games at the Richland County Fairgrounds. Soccer was the largest youth sports program in Richland County, growing from a membership of 125 to more than 400 youth in just five years.

The country goes to war as United States began attacks on Saddam Hussein and Iraq.

Eighty yellow ribbons adorned Ellery Avenue April 1, the day dedicated as Yellow Ribbon Day in Fairview.

The Montana Department of Revenue found in favor for transfer of ownership and location of an all-alcoholic beverages license for the Yellowstone Casino (formerly the LaLonde Hotel/Yellowstone Casino) located at the site of the former gas service station known as Herbert's Exxon at 222 S. Central Ave.

Sidney School Board trustees voted during a special meeting Monday to close part of West Side Elementary School.

By May oil activity in the county was picking up. In one weekly report, there were 12 new locations listed for horizontal wells.

The new CEO at the Sidney Health Center, Richard Haraldson, started his duties on May 12.

Construction on the 12,500 square foot addition at Sidney Assembly God Church began June 1.

Camille Lebsock, Fairview, was crowned Miss Northeastern Montana.

Some of the bravest individuals in Montana converged in Sidney for the Montana State Volunteer Firefighters Convention.

Richland County Montana State University Extension agricultural agents Agent Fred Barkley and Red Lovec retired. Barkley served th community 27 years, with Lovec serving 23 years.

On July 13 Restorx hosted the first Sidney motocross race in 15 years. Approximately 1,500 riders and spectators gathered for race number 10 of the 13 race North Dakota Motocross Association series. The event took place at Rocky's Full Throttle MxPark located four and a half miles north of Sidney.

Fairview Bridge was dedicated during Fairview Old Timers Reunion and Festival.

The Budweiser Clydesdales were a popular attraction at the Richland County Fair in August.

The first Relay for Life in Sidney raised $47,784.27 for cancer research and drew a crowd of over 600.

The community celebrated the grand opening of the Busch Agricultural Resources Inc. MonDak Barley Facility with a ribbon cutting.

Three human cases of West Nile Virus were confirmed in Richland County in September.

Fairview High School juniors Cole Leininger and Marcus Weber designed plans for the reconstruction of the dilapidated west entrance of the Fairview Lift Bridge and Cartwright Tunnel.

2003 marked the 90th anniversary of the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department and was celebrated in October during fire prevention week.

David Rauschendorfer was welcomed home by family and friends at the Sidney-Richland Airport with American flags and signs. Rauschendorfer returned home after serving in Iraq.

The Sidney Herald announced its new redesign of the paper in November. The improvements were made to make the paper easier to read.

Ben Larson became the new Montana State University extension agent in Richland County. Larson replaced retired agent Red Lovec and started the job in January 2004.

U.S Agriculture Secretary Anne Veneman announced that a suspected case of mad cow disease or bovine spongiform encephalopathy was discovered in Washington state in December.
