Leonard J. (Sonny) Heninger died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at an extended care facility of natural causes.

Leonard was born in Miles City Dec. 7, 1929. Sonny grew up in Fairview, the beloved son of Grover and Augusta Heninger.

At an early age, he was a big, strong kid who worked for various farmers in the Fairview area, learned to work hard, and began his life driving truck and various equipment. As a young adult he started working road construction, which he did for many years as a cat-skinner. He was happy driving truck or a cat.

In 1961, he quit the construction work and went into selling mobile homes in Miles City. In 1964, he went to Rapid City, S.D., and started his own mobile home sales. In 1967, he moved to Woodworth to operate Kozy Korner Bar. In 1980, he sold Kozy Korner Bar and went back to road construction. He also owned and drove school buses for 25 years. In 1995, Sonny retired completely and moved to Great Falls.

Sonny was happiest when he was driving his motor home and visiting his friends and family along the road he traveled.

Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Joann, Great Falls; his daughter, Amber (Kevin) Johnson, Summerville, Ore.; grandson Travis; and granddaughter Ashley.
