[2] When the LORD first spoke through Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea, “Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the LORD.”

The love of a father
Posted: August 09, 2015 - 12:00 am

When I was a kid growing up on a farm in southern Minnesota, we had crops and livestock on the farm. We had some feeder pigs, some feeder calves and some sheep. The sheep would get moved between three different pastures. So, part of the summer they could come back to the barn, and part of the summer they would be out in pasture away from our building site.

He got nothing done, until He stuck his neck out
Posted: June 28, 2015 - 12:00 am

A number of years ago I was sitting with a group of young children, most of them in early elementary school or preschool, and I was telling them the story of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). After I got done telling the story, I asked the children what they thought of that story. One little boy quickly raised his hand and said, “The Samaritan was a lot like a turtle.” I certainly was not sure what he meant by that, but thought I should ask. And the little boy added, “He not nothing done, until he stuck his neck out.”

Tough questions: What about the one who has seriously, seriously hurt you? What about the one who has sexually abused you? What about the one who has cheated on you? What about the one who has aborted their own child? What about the one that defrauded you and caused you serious financial harm? What about the one that lied about you, slandered you, abandoned you? What about the parents who just flat out rejected you? What about the one who has murdered your own parents, your child, your spouse?

[17] Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” [18] But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? [19] Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. [20] And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” [21] They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Matthew 22:17-21 ESV).

Easter's not a new beginning

A certain pastor in Texas, one with a famously characteristic smile and cheerily optimistic wife toted on his arm, gave an Easter message several years ago in which he said, “If you’ll let go of the old and have a fresh new vision, God can make the rest of your life the best of your life. Today can be your new beginning.”
